San Juan County is pleased to offer a variety of ways to stay informed about local news and events. Choose the option (or options!) that is right for you!  

Newsletters

San Juan County publishes several newsletters that cover topics including: 

  • General County (Affordable Housing, Taxes & Budget, Council Updates, etc.)
  • Health & Community Services
  • Conservation Land Bank
  • Parks, Recreation, & Fair
  • Environmental Stewardship

To be added to the Newsletter subscriber lists:

  1. Click here to get started 
  2. Enter your email address in the box provided. 
  3. Then you have the option to create a password so you can update your subscriber preferences into the future. 
  4. Finally, select the newsletters you're interested in receiving. You'll be prompted to provide your first name and the island you're associated with. 
  5. All done! You can sign in any time to adjust your subscriber preferences. Now you'll start receiving newsletters from San Juan County!

News Flashes 

The County sends regular news flashes to local media outlets, posts them to the website, and emails them to subscribers. News Flashes are sent as news breaks, and cover everything from Council decisions to Public Works projects, Health Department services, to committee updates. News Flashes

To be added to the News Flash subscriber list:

  1. Visit: https://www.sanjuancountywa.gov/list.aspx.
  2. Enter your email address in the box near the top where it says: "Please sign in to subscribe, unsubscribe, or manage your subscriptions.” You’ll need to sign in and/or create an account.
  3. Then, select the types of news you'd like to receive. 
    • *TIP: If you're just interested in the highlights, sign up for the “SJC Monthly News Digest” option that is sent at the end of every month.

You'll need to verify your new account via an email sent to your address.

Sign up to receive emergency alerts and severe weather warnings that could directly impact you and your family. 

The San Juan County/Town of Friday Harbor Department of Emergency Management is able to send emergency alerts via text message to cell phones and email. In some extremely urgent situations, calls may be placed to land line phones as well. The system is intended to be used for emergencies only.

Did you know that you can sign up for specific project updates? 

Visit the County's 'Engage' platform where you can view key project materials including timelines, meeting recordings, and presentation slides. You can also ask questions, submit feedback, and subscribe for project updates!  

To subscribe to project updates, simply navigate to the project page you're interested in and enter your email into the 'STAY INFORMED' box in the right-hand column (pictured above).  

Meetings & Agendas

Do you want to be notified of the next Council meeting or the Board of Health? 

No matter what committee, commission, or board you're interested in, you can sign up for meeting notifications via our Civic Clerk system

  1. Visit: https://sanjuancowa.portal.civicclerk.com/ 
  2. Click the green 'SIGN IN' button in the upper right-hand corner. You'll be prompted to sign in to your existing account or sign up for a new one. 
  3.  After you sign in, select the 'SUBSCRIPTIONS' button in the upper right-hand corner. You'll then see a list of boards, committees, and commissions to choose from. 
  4. Select the meetings you want to be notified about by clicking the slider on the right. 
  5. Finally, you'll be sent an email confirming your subscriptions.
