Sheriff's Deputy or Dispatcher Employment

Civil Service rules govern the hiring of candidates for both Deputy and Dispatcher positions. Testing services for Dispatcher and entry-level Deputy positions are provided through Public Safety Testing, Inc. Interested persons are encouraged to visit Public Safety Testing, Inc. online or directly at 1-866-HIRE911 to discuss testing options. To be considered for the position, entry-level candidates must score a minimum of 70% on their written examination. Once scores are received through Public Safety Testing, candidates will be contacted by the Civil Service Examiner to attend an in-person oral board panel interview in Friday Harbor. Upon completion of the interview, candidates will receive another score, and both the written and oral examination scores will be combined to give a final score, placing them with an associated ranking on the eligibility list. Rankings may fluctuate as other candidates go through the same process. Names of candidates and application materials will then be distributed to the Sheriff's Office as requested in order of their ranking. For additional questions about the process, please contact the Civil Service Examiner

Lateral Deputy resume/cover letter/references are accepted at any time, directly by the Civil Service Commission, and rankings are adjusted with each new application. For civil service employment information in the Sheriff's Office, email Civil Service or call 360-378-4657.
