County Buildings with Greg Sawyer, Director of Facilities
This presentation included an overview of County properties, as organized by island, function, and known building issues. Topics included the Historic Courthouse Preservation Grant, a Campus Plan Review, a 2019 Real Estate Study, and recommended next steps for the County.
County Boards and Advisory committees review with Amy Vira, Prosecutor
Prosecuting Attorney Amy Vira presented a review of San Juan County’s Boards and Commissions. She believes there are approximately 22 volunteer boards and commissions – some created by state law, some created by Council, and each needing a Council liaison and staff contact.
The proposed review included a review of each board’s authority, their membership requirements, and their mission. From there, the recommendation included identifying training opportunities, necessary website updates, and possible updates to County Code.
Legislative Session communication protocol
Council discussed how to prioritize and communicate about legislative priorities. They reached out to other local counties to discover how they handle these issues, including feedback from Skagit, Kitsap, Whatcom, and Snohomish Counties. County Manager, Mike Thomas, presented framework for pathways to discussions that includes responsibilities for the Council Chair, Council members, and staff.
