Discussion: Public Works Survey, Erin Wygant –Communication Coordinator and Colin Huntemer –County Engineer
The Public Works Department wants to solicit feedback from the public to learn how County roads and infrastructure can best serve the needs of the community.
The Public Works Department is responsible for construction and maintenance of facilities and programs that support essential public services related to transportation infrastructure across the islands. These services and programs include multi-modal travel infrastructure (widened road shoulders, separated paths, etc.), marine infrastructure (docks, ramps, etc.), and more.
The Public Works Department is launching a survey on the ‘Engage’ platform. The survey is six pages long and takes about 10 minutes to complete. With a variety of question styles and opportunities for feedback, this survey will provide the department with valuable information about current use, public sentiment, and future project prioritization.
This survey will be open for a month and is being publicized on the County’s website, social media channels, in print publications, via fliers around the various islands, and directly sent to partner organizations.
Discussion: Public Lands Fee
Council discussed a recent presentation at the NACO Board to establish a nominal fee to create a congressional research resource. This fee – paid by counties with significant public lands – would contribute to creating a mechanism to collect data on how public lands impact the counties they are in. Additional discussion on this topic will take place as more information becomes available.
