County Fair Announces New Online Vendor Entry Feature
The Fair is thrilled to provide online entry for those wishing to enter something into the Fair. All you need to do is visit the San Juan County Fair website, (https://www.sjcfair.org/p/thefair/exhibitors-open-class) and select the section titled, “2023 San Juan County Open Fair – FairEntry.com” to enter your item. Registration is open from July 12 – August 13.
County Announces Ban on Recreational Fires
The San Juan County Fire Marshal has declared a ban on all recreational fires after consultation with the San Juan County Fire Chiefs. Due to current atmospheric and field conditions, this ban applies throughout unincorporated San Juan County. The following operations are prohibited during the burn ban:
- No recreational campfires using charcoal or firewood
- No outdoor cooking fires involving charcoal or firewood
- No tiki torches or similar product with an open flame fueled by oil
Back to School Vaccine Clinics are Around the Corner
Is it really almost back to school season? Don’t worry, Health & Community Services has got your back-to-school vaccine planning covered! HCS will be offering free clinics this August to make sure everyone’s ready for the next school year. Clinics will be on San Juan Island (Tuesday, Aug. 22 from 3 to 6 p.m.), Orcas Island (Wednesday, Aug. 23 from 3 to 6 p.m.) and Lopez Island (Wednesday, Aug. 30 from 3 to 6 p.m.). San Juan County’s Conservation Land Bank Announces New Trail
Pintail Trail is a rustic, half mile spur at the Beaverton Marsh Preserve that traverses forests and mossy balds, complete with viewpoints over Beaverton Marsh. During the winter, this will be an excellent place to watch migratory waterfowl, including pintail ducks! The trail has been constructed through considerable volunteer effort including an REI Employee Volunteer trip, local islanders, Islands Conservation Corps, and was completed by a Washington Conservation Corps crew. Look for the Pintail Trail sign along the Dragonfly Loop trail at the eastern part of the preserve.
San Juan County is celebrating Plastic Free July!
Take part by visiting www.plasticfreesalishsea.org to join the Adopt a Beach and Adopt a Road programs, and be sure to follow the Dept. of Environmental Stewardship on Facebook and Instagram for tips to reduce plastic waste all month.
San Juan County Begins Recycling Plastic Film
The plastic film recycling program is expanding to include San Juan Island residents outside the Town of Friday Harbor. Starting July 28, residents can bring plastic film to Marketplace to deposit in a “Plastic Film Only” receptacle. Learn more at www.sanjuanco.com/solidwaste
