Fire Danger Downgraded to Low

SAN JUAN COUNTY, WA. October 2, 2023 - Effective today, Monday, October 2, 2023, the San Juan County fire danger level has been downgraded to the LOW level. This change in fire danger level lifts the burning restrictions as outlined in the burn permit condition, however, there are still restrictions. No open burning is allowed when:

  • Within an Urban Growth Area with exception to recreational campfires. 
  • Winds are sustained greater than 10 MPH. 
    • Avoid open burning during stagnant air systems such as fog and/or a low inversain layer.

Residential burn permits are valid from time of purchase until May 31, 2024. Residential burn permits are $20 dollars. Commercial burn permits require heavy equipment, water on site, and field inspection prior to burning. Commercial burn permits are $300 dollars. Burn permits are available online at San Juan County Permit Center
