Biography
Justin Paulsen has been a San Juan County resident for over 20 years, first residing on San Juan Island and ultimately putting roots down on Orcas Island. He and his wife, Amber, have five “island-raised” children and an ever-growing group of grand children who all also reside on Orcas.
Justin was born and raised in Renton, Washington and graduated from Western Washington University in 1996 with a degree in Sociology. Following college, he worked in the hospitality industry for several years before founding a construction contracting business. It was this business that brought him to San Jaun County where he has been based for the past two decades.
As an active community member, Justin has been deeply involved in work with affordable housing and has held numerous non-profit board positions. Prior to being elected to Council, he served as a Commissioner with Orcas Island Park and Recreation District for over a decade as well as serving on the County's Ferry Advisory Committee.
As a small business owner, raising a family in the islands, Justin hopes to bring a perspective to Council which recognizes the unique economic and social challenges faced by our community. He deeply appreciates the trust that the voters of San Juan County have placed in him and looks forward to elevating the voices of ALL islanders in his work as a Councilmember.
