County and Town Send Open Letter to State Officials Regarding Impacts of Poor Ferry Service
The San Juan County and Town of Friday Harbor Councils published an open letter sent to Washington State Governor Jay Inslee and Washington State Department of Transportation Secretary Roger Millar. The letter highlights the impacts of Washington State Ferry service disruptions county-wide and is co-signed by local boards and business representatives from across the islands. San Juan County Moves to .gov Domain for Enhanced Cybersecurity
To enhance the County’s cybersecurity systems, the County’s website domain will be transitioning to .gov along with an updated name. The County will be trading ‘www.sanjuanco.com’ for the more official and secure ‘www.sanjuancountywa.gov.’ This change is set to take place by December 1.
For the next year, users who mistakenly visit the old URL www.sanjuanco.com will automatically be redirected to the new URL. Residents visiting the County website are encouraged to update any ‘bookmarks’ in their browsers with the new URL: www.sanjuancountywa.gov.
County Manager Mike Thomas Stepping Down After 10 Years of Public Service in the Islands
County Manager Mike Thomas recently announced that he is stepping down from his position after 10 years with San Juan County. He has worked in local government in Washington State for over 33 years. Thomas will remain with the County through February and aid in the search for a new manager. Recruitment for a new manager is already underway.

San Juan County Health & Community Services (HCS) wants to hear from all County residents in its Community Health Survey. The anonymous survey takes only eight to ten minutes and will help HCS better understand how all islanders are doing. The results of the survey will identify areas of improvement and set a path towards creating a healthier community for all. County Completes Renovation of the Fairground’s Marie Boe Building
Renovations at the Marie Boe Building at the San Juan County Fairgrounds are now complete. The space now includes new restrooms, improved audio-visual functions, and a refresh of the building.
