SAN JUAN COUNTY, WA. May 4, 2023 – San Juan County’s Conservation Land Bank is excited to share a series of events throughout May. From guided walks to habitat tours, there’s something for everyone!

North Shore Property Guided Tours | Orcas Island | May 5, 13, 18

Acquired in 2022, the preserve is located within one of the County’s highest priority regions for salmon recovery. Its vital nearshore environment features mature forest, wetlands, 1,800 feet of shoreline, and a half-acre of tidelands that support eelgrass and forage fish. Mother’s Day Wildflower and Wildlife Walk | Orcas Island | May 14: 10am to 12pm

Treat your mom to the wonders of springtime in the islands with a guided walk along Diamond Hill Preserve! 

Grab your binoculars and join Land Bank staff for this special opportunity to explore the beauty and diversity of wildflowers, habitats, and vistas the mountain has to offer. Diamond Hill Preserve is closed to public access; this morning ramble offers a special opportunity to view the variety of flora and fauna thriving within the undisturbed acreage.

Island Marble Butterfly Habitat Tour | San Juan Island | May 21: 2pm to 5pmIsland Marble Butterfly Habitat Created on Private Property

For those who have been following the Island Marble Butterfly, or the Land Bank’s Moveable Feast project, this event is for you! You’ll learn about this rare animal’s remarkable life history, different approaches to making and managing its habitat, and how anyone can pitch in to help.
