San Juan County Launches Internship Program
San Juan County is investing in the next generation of workers! The new internship program is designed to give on-the-job work experience to those entering the workforce or a new field. Students will be able to receive college credit, job-shadowing opportunities, and fair compensation. Applications will be available this spring for a variety of positions across several County departments. More information will be published soon!
Work Begins to Complete ADA Upgrades at Orcas Island Ferry Terminal
San Juan County (SJC) and Washington State Ferries (WSF) are eager to announce a public access upgrade for the Orcas Island Ferry Terminal. Thanks to this partnership, the project will provide improved ADA parking and access to the Orcas Ferry Terminal. Project updates will be provided regularly on the WSDOT website under ‘Travel Alert Bulletins’ at wsdot.com/ferries/schedule/bulletin.aspx. San Juan County honors Lucinda Elizabeth Stewart Boyce’s Legacy of Care with Community Health Van
‘Luci B’ lived on San Juan Island in the late 1800s and, through radical acts of public service, cultivated a legacy of care. She was known to travel by horseback, buggy, and canoe to serve soldiers, settlers, and indigenous men and women throughout the islands. This month, during Women’s History Month, San Juan County unveiled its new Community Wellness Van – named after this influential island caretaker. Conservation Land Bank Hosts Community Conversations in April

Parks & Fair Readied to Respond to Opioid Overdoses
Staff at San Juan County Parks are now better equipped to respond to opioid overdoses, thanks to a partnership with the Health & Community Services Department (HCS). Funded by the National Opioid Settlement Fund, Parks staff now have access to Naloxone, better known as NARCAN® Nasal Spray, which is used to treat overdoses. Training for parks staff is scheduled for the upcoming visitor season and will educate employees on the safe and effective administration of the drug.
