San Juan County Celebrates 150th Anniversary
On October 31, 2023, San Juan County turns 150 years old – giving us all a reason to celebrate our community, our islands, and our County. After all, celebrating 150 years only happens once in a lifetime!
Established as its own local government on October 31, 1873, San Juan County has since built a legacy of service. Real and Personal Property Taxes Due
The second half property taxes and personal property taxes are due Tuesday, October 31. Payments received in person, via our secure payment box or postmarked after the October 31 deadline are automatically charged 1% interest on outstanding balances. PLEASE plan ahead to avoid interest charges. Our secure payment drop box is located at the Court House entrance on the Sheriff side of the building. If mailing your payment, the envelope must be federally postmarked on or before October 31 for the payment to be considered on time. Keep in mind, although you place your payment in the mailbox, federal postmarks often happen the next business day. If mailing your payment less than a week prior to the deadline, we strongly recommend having your envelope hand canceled by the postal agent.
Department of Health & Community Services Launches ‘Growing Families’ Program
San Juan Islands (“Growing Families”) is Health & Community Services’ local, public health home- and community-visiting service offered to growing families throughout the County. After much planning, the program officially launched this month! Through this program, the department hopes to continue to support the community by providing evidence-based public health services and promoting the health of mothers, children, and families throughout the County. Make Your Voice Heard: Community Health Survey
San Juan County Health & Community Services wants to hear from as many people as possible in the Community Health Survey. The survey is anonymous and only takes eight to ten minutes to complete. There are questions about quality of life, access to health care, how people access health-related information, and what are some of the barriers to good health in our county. The more people we hear from, the more complete our picture will be of how San Juan County residents are doing. The survey will be open until mid-November 2023. Fall 2023 Great Islands Clean-up Successfully Removes 1,800lbs of Litter
In an inspiring display of community unity and environmental stewardship, 164 dedicated volunteers came together to participate in the Fall Great Islands Clean-up on Orcas, San Juan, Shaw, and Lopez Islands. Their collective efforts resulted in the removal of 1,871 pounds of litter from 50 miles of island roads and beaches.
