The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) released preliminary draft maps for flood areas along the San Juan County coastlines including the Town of Friday Harbor. What this means for property owners will be discussed during an open house on May 10, 2017 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the San Juan Council Legislative Hearing Room 55 Second Street, Friday Harbor, WA 98250. The meeting will be live streamed: http://www.sanjuanco.com/773/Council-Hearing-Room-Live-Stream
The preliminary flood insurance rate maps show revisions to the 100-year floodplain, which has a 1 percent chance of flooding in any year. They will help community officials and residents identify flood risks and will be used for flood insurance, land use and development decisions.
At the event, property owners and residents will have a chance to learn about the flood mapping process and what a map change means for them. San Juan County and the Town of Friday Harbor encourage property owners to examine the preliminary maps, attend open house, and ask questions about how revisions could affect them.
Maps will be available for pickup at the open house or will be emailed to you in advance, depending on the timing of the submittal. Prior to the meeting, you may request a custom flood map of your property and ask questions regarding your property and how you may be affected by the new maps, by submitting an on-line map request form at: http://www.sanjuanco.com
