Residential burn season opens September 30, 2019. Residential burn permits for the 2019- 2020 season are now available for purchase online through the new San Juan County Online Permit Center. In order to purchase a burn permit online, you will need to sign up for an account, even if you have signed up in the past.
NOTE: COMMERCIAL BURN PERMITS ARE NOT OPEN AT THIS TIME
You will also be able to purchase a burn permit in person at the Fire District offices or Department of Community Development beginning on September 30. You will not need to have an account in order to purchase a burn permit in person.

Access code Not Required
When you sign up, you will be asked for an access code. You do not need an access code to sign up for an account or apply for a residential burn permit, just click the option to “skip this step”.
Fees
The fee is $20 including the credit card service charge. The $2.00 service charge will not appear until you go to the payment window. You will need to pay by credit card if you are applying online.
Sign up early!
You will be able to sign up and purchase your burn permit before September 30 if you do it online, although it will not be valid before September 30. Burn permits will also be available for purchase in person beginning on September 30 at the fire district offices and at the San Juan County Department of Community Development at 135 Rhone Street.

For in-person assistance with setting up new accounts and purchasing burn permits through the Online Permit Center, The Department of Community Development is offering extended office hours through the month of September on Thursdays until 6 pm, at the Department of Community Development at 135 Rhone Street and at the Orcas Island Senior Center.
