BACKGROUND

On January 12, 2021, the County Council approved Resolution 03-2021, which enacted a moratorium on permits for new short-term rentals.  State law requires the County to begin working on code changes to rectify the issues that led to the moratorium (RCW 36.70A.390). The County Council has directed staff to amend the vacation rental code in San Juan County Code (SJCC) 18.40.275 Vacation rental of residences or accessory dwelling units (ADUs) to address the concerns that led to enacting a moratorium.
